Mechassist ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Mechassist platform, including the website at mechassist.net and related dashboard services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By creating an account or using Mechassist, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

Account information: your name and email address, provided when you sign up, log in, request a magic-link login, or contact support.

Vehicle data: VINs you look up, vehicles you save to your garage, and associated parts, diagrams, and maintenance schedule requests. This data is necessary to provide the service.

Usage information: pages visited, features used, search activity, and interaction events collected to improve the platform and diagnose issues.

Billing information: your plan, billing interval, order history, and payment status. Full payment card details are never stored on our servers — they are processed directly by our payment providers (see Payments below).

To provide, operate, and maintain the service — decoding VINs, returning OEM parts data, maintenance schedules, and garage features.

To manage your account and subscription, process purchases, send transactional emails (magic links, order confirmations, verification emails), and provide support.

To improve the service: we analyse aggregated usage patterns to fix bugs, prioritise features, and enhance coverage of vehicles and parts.

To ensure security and prevent abuse, including detecting unauthorised access and enforcing plan limits.

We use trusted third-party payment processors (including Stripe and Paystack) to handle subscription payments. When you enter card details at checkout, they are transmitted directly to the processor over an encrypted connection.

We receive only a confirmation of payment, the amount, and identifiers needed to link the payment to your subscription. We do not store full card numbers.

We use browser local storage and similar technologies to keep you signed in between sessions, remember your dashboard email, store saved vehicles in your garage, and remember preferences such as theme and region.

These technologies are functional and are not used to track you across other websites. You can clear them through your browser settings, though doing so may sign you out or reset preferences.

We do not sell your personal information.

We share information only with: service providers who help us operate the business (payment processors, email delivery, hosting, vehicle-data suppliers) under contractual confidentiality obligations; and authorities where required by law, legal process, or to protect our rights and safety.

If Mechassist is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

We keep your account and vehicle data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Billing records are retained as required by tax and accounting laws.

If you ask us to delete your account, we will remove or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

We protect your information using industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections (TLS), hashed passwords and single-use magic-link tokens, and access controls limited to personnel who need the data to do their jobs.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach affecting your data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request correction or deletion, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

You can update your name and email from your dashboard profile, or contact us to exercise any of these rights. You can also stop marketing communications at any time by following the unsubscribe link in any email.

Mechassist is intended for mechanics, repair shops, and automotive professionals. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through the service.

Your continued use of Mechassist after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
